the mount fuji is probably japan's most recognizable natural feature. the snow-covered, dormant volcano, surrounded by forests and clouds, is known outside of japan as fujiyama, which is probably based on a misreading of the japanese character for mountain. whether - correctly - fuji-san or fujiyama, the japanese label studio d'artisan got inspired by this legendary mountain for these jeans. the gray weft is reminiscent of the rocky part of the volcano and the beautiful yamagata sashiko fabric is reminiscent of mountain peaks stretching to the horizon. the d1838 jean features a modern (slim) relaxed tapered silhouette without being too slim. the denim is woven in okayama by a vintage toyoda g3 shuttle loom which was the first loom created in japan for producing selvedge fabrics. these looms are used for their unique texture and for the vintage appeal they create.
